What's the Difference Between the Jeep Grand Cherokee L and the Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Jeep Grand Cherokee L

Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L debuted recently as the latest, and one of the most luxurious, additions to the lineup. This new full-size crossover offers a flexible and spacious interior, ideal for families and larger carpools. If this is your first time shopping for a Jeep, you might not know much about the new Grand Cherokee L and how different it is from the classic SUV of its origin. Let us tell you more about the differences between the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the all-new Grand Cherokee L here at Gastonia Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.

Shoppers will find our dealership here o E Franklin Blvd in Gastonia, NC, less than a half-hour outside of Charlotte, NC.

Exterior/Interior

The key differences between the Grand Cherokee and all-new Grand Cherokee L start with their respective designs. Both embody all the hallmarks of the Jeep brand, including their front grilles and high ground clearances, which make them excellent for off-roading. However, the Grand Cherokee L features a slightly newer look at the moment, blending elements of the Grand Wagoneer, which also debuted recently. The roof of the Grand Wagoneer is extended to give it a squarer design compared to the original Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee L also has an extra slot underneath its grille for increased air intake, which also separates it from its smaller predecessor.

On the inside of the Grand Cherokee L, the biggest difference between the two is readily apparent with the available seats. The new Grand Cherokee L offers seven available seats, with six-seat versions also available. The original Grand Cherokee is more of a traditional midsize crossover, with five seats and lots of cargo volume.

Performance

While the sizes and designs of these SUVs are quite different, their available performances remain relatively consistent, with both crossovers offering lots of capability and fun driving. The midsize Grand Cherokee even offers slightly more torque and aggressiveness with its standard 290-horsepower V6 engine, which generates five more horsepower than the standard Pentastar V6 of the Grand Cherokee L. The available 5.7-liter V8 engine of the Grand Cherokee L is evenly matched to the comparable engine on its predecessor, both of which generate 390 pound-feet. With the right towing equipment, both of these SUVs can haul up to 7,200 lbs.

A key performance advantage the five-seat Grand Cherokee has over the all-new Grand Cherokee L is the inclusion of an all-new hybrid variant. The Grand Cherokee 4xe is the first-ever plug-in hybrid variant of this Jeep SUV and a great choice for commuters in Fort Mill, NC. While the Grand Cherokee L is unavailable as a hybrid now, we will likely see this trim debut in the future.

Features

Since both are Jeep SUVs, you will find many of the same performance and convenience features on the either of these Grand Cherokee variants. However, as of now, it seems like the Grand Cherokee L has the most tech-savvy cockpit for your daily drive through Lincolnton, NC, complete with a 10.1-inch display screen and the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, broadcasting all the information you need right behind the steering wheel. These features, and the overall luxurious design of the Grand Cherokee L, will likely be incorporated onto future installments of the standard five-seat Grand Cherokee.

Which is Right for You?

The question remains: which of these SUVs is right for you? The Jeep Grand Cherokee L has plenty of seating, but drivers who don't need as much space might consider the standard Grand Cherokee. However, if you're looking for the most modern and stylish crossover you can get your hands on, you might like the Grand Cherokee L more. In terms of performance, you really cannot go wrong between either!
