Is the Ram 1500 Big Horn Right for You?
July 12 2024 - support@wikimotive.com
The Ram 1500 is one of the most potent and impressive trucks, giving you exceptional performance, tremendous capability, and a sophisticated interior, all in a full-size pickup built for both work and play. That being said, when you look for a new truck at your favorite Ram dealer near Charlotte, you’ll quickly discover that you have many options available. In addition to both Quad Cab and Crew Cabs, plus your choice of two-wheel drive (4x2) and four-wheel drive (4x4), there are also eight different trim levels and numerous special editions on offer. All of this can make shopping for a truck feel a bit overwhelming, which is why we’re here to help.
At Gastonia Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we’re incredibly passionate about our Ram trucks and love the chance to help our customers learn more about them. While going over all eight trim levels can be helpful when you’re trying to understand what each one offers, once you have one in mind, it helps to dig deeper into it. One of our favorite options is the Ram 1500 Big Horn, which gives you a number of upgrades over the standard features without going too far. So, let’s take a closer look at the Big Horn model for the 2024 Ram 1500 and see if it’s the right one to meet your needs.
Engine Options and Performance
When it comes to your truck, there’s no better place to start than with the engine since it dictates so much of your experience while driving around Charlotte. Ram makes things pretty simple with amazing engines and impressive overall capability, though you do have some options to consider with the Big Horn model. This truck has a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine standard, delivering 305 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. If you’re looking for more power from your truck, you can choose a 5.7L HEMI V8 engine for the Big Horn, boosting performance up to 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. We definitely like the available HEMI for this truck, and it’s worth considering as you decide which features are right for you; either engine comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission for a smooth and responsive driving experience. A 4x2 setup is standard for the Big Horn, but a 4x4 setup is available, which we prefer since it gives you superior traction and control when driving around. There’s also an active-level four-corner air suspension available for the Big Horn, which is a fantastic choice that transforms your drive each day for added comfort. If you’re looking for a truck that you’ll spend a lot of time in, this suspension is invaluable, and we’d strongly recommend it for the Ram 1500 Big Horn.
Body Model Options and Exterior
One of the things we love about the Big Horn model for the Ram 1500 is that it gives you more options for the body configuration than just about any other trim for this pickup. The standard setup is a Quad Cab with a six-foot four-inch box, giving you good room for passengers and a large bed. However, if you’re looking for something roomier, you can choose a Crew Cab for the Big Horn to ensure your passengers are even more comfortable. Best of all, the Crew Cab is available with either a five-foot seven-inch box or the same six-foot four-inch box as the standard configuration, giving you three terrific setups to choose from. The exterior of the Big Horn includes halogen headlamps with auto-on/off functionality, including daytime running lights and cargo box lighting that’s perfect for loading and unloading in the evening. You get power-adjustable side mirrors to ensure you can get them to just the right angle for optimal visibility, plus they’re heated to avoid fogging up on cold mornings. Chrome front and rear bumpers are standard, with a rear bumper step that makes it easier to access items in the box. You get 18-inch wheels, with more options available, but we’ll look at them soon.Interior Features and Options
Moving inside the Ram 1500 Big Horn, you’ll find an 8.4-inch Uconnect Infotainment display upfront as part of the Level 1 Equipment Group, plus a 3.5-inch color display integrated with the gauge cluster. This group also includes an automatic-dimming rearview mirror, power-adjustable pedals that you can set to a level that works best for you, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat for optimal comfort. A six-speaker sound system is standard in the Big Horn model, which is excellent for driving around Charlotte, with a 9-speaker option available if you enjoy amazing audio while on the road. You can also get a sunroof in the Big Horn trim: a single-pane for Quad Cab models or a dual-pane sunroof if you choose one with a Crew Cab so that your rear-seat passengers have more room.Appearance Packages and Options
We looked at the standard exterior features for the Big Horn, but you also have more options if you like to customize your truck. While chrome bumpers are standard, you can choose a Sport Appearance Group for the Big Horn, which gets you body-color front and rear bumpers, a body-color grille surround, body-color door handles and mirror caps, and larger 20-inch all-season tires for an added touch of style and improved performance. You can also choose the Night Edition Package for the Big Horn (it’s offered on only two other trims) that includes these exact body-color details, which include black badging, grille, and surround; dark headlight bezels; and 20-inch black wheels. Paired with an all-black interior, this provides you with a sophisticated and intimidating truck that makes an immediate impression as you drive around Charlotte as a shadow comes to life.
